A Commitment to everything is a commitment to nothing

I took a break from the blog for good reason. I’ve always been about high quality work and if I can’t provide that, I should not be putting that work out there. A commitment is always 100 or 0 for me. That is how I am able to focus on what matters.
This blog started in the summer with a lesser obligation of coaching teams and athletes. I was able to put a lot of effort into the writing and I was very invested with what I had to share. But when the school year started, my priority and focus shifted to the development and growth of the athletes, teams, and staff I spend every day with. Why should I expect full engagement from all of them if I fail to do the same? It doesn’t make sense.
This is a talking point with the student-athletes I work with. To put myself in a position to be successful, one activity or responsibility will have more of a priority than others. Below is what I focus on throughout the year.
Some will say, “you could easily do that if you just made more time or gave more energy.” Some may say I sacrifice too much. But I believe it’s just balance. I commit to my work. I commit to my personal life. Setting my priorities helps me seek opportunities on both ends. I focus on the little things that help me prepare for the next day. Everyone is different and this is what I do. A commitment to the best and nothing less.
